This painting speaks to the new beginning that comes with baptism. Over the raised hand of the person baptizing the young boy is the Genisis 1: 1-3 scripture. The scripture reads: " In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth and the earth. 2. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3. And God said, let there be light: and there was light" This scripture refers to the creation of the heaven and the earth which can symbolize the eternal part of us being combined with the earthly part of us. Verse 1. God created us from the dust of the earth but breathed life into us giving us a soul which is the heavenly part of what we are. Verse 2 Can symbolize that with only a soul and body we function without form and live in a void. Darkness is the natural conclusion to a soul without their Creator. Our soul came from our God and is now wondering in the darkness without Him. At baptism is where the Spirit of God moves upon the face of our physical water. We are 70% water. Verse 3 Then God speaks and says let there be light! A light is given to us by way of our obedience to the word of God. We receive the spirit of God, and we now walk in the light. You cannot see without the light.
